Founder's biography

My name is Jerry and I founded the Social Media Addicts Association in the spring of 2009 to help people beat their addiction to social networking sites and reclaim their lives.

I was once an addict, and it nearly ruined my life. But I quit blogging, tweeting and poking, and now I've been clean for almost a year, although it never leaves you completely. Sometimes, even now, when I sit in front of a computer, I'll find myself halfway through writing a status update before I even know what I'm doing. Once an addict, always an addict.

That's why I decided to set up the Social Media Addicts Association, not just to encourage others to kick the habit, but to help me stay strong too. Together we can do this.

5 Steps to kicking the habit

  1. Admit you have a problem but don't tweet about it.
  2. Accept that you don't need upvotes to feel validated.
  3. Understand the risks of poking strangers.
  4. Repeat after me: "Twitter and alcohol don't mix".
  5. Don't go cold turkey! Just delete one friend a day.
